Here is a nice trick that I found:

With a device that has iOS 11 installed, pair your AirPods and configure what you want the AirPods to do via double tap.

When you go to use your AirPods on a device with iOS 10 installed, you'll still have those gestures. However, you won't be able to customize them from that device in the same way an iOS 11 device can. Also, changing the settings from iOS 10 will clear the functionality.

Anyone with iOS11 and a user of Overcast (for podcasts), can you tell me if the next/previous track option translates to skip forward/back (e.g. 15/30 seconds)?

Thanks.

I finally got home and was able to pair my AirPods with my spare iPhone running the beta. Set left airpod to skip back one track, right one to skip forward. Then I paired them with my iPhone 7 still on iOS 10 and OP is BEST OP EVER thank you!

My AirPods are like.. twice as useful now. :)

Just did this yesterday with my iPad on iOS 11. Was happy to see the change carried over to my iPhone running iOS 10!

Anyone?

Would love to know. If it does, I'll prob install the beta on my 12.9".

I can confirm this works with Overcast!

Superb!!!!!

Thanks. On holiday at moment, will definitely install the beta on my 12.9" on Sunday. Nothing to lose really, getting a 10.5" next week, replacing my current 9.7" iPP, I'll use the 12.9" as a testing ground.

A few betas in, I might bung it on the 10.5", my main iPad. I usually show patience where betas are concerned, but 11 looks so good on the iPad I might bite the bullet earlier.

Wow that's a neat trick you found. I guess I always though the logic was in the host device and not in the airpods. Seems to be resident in the airpods.

Very nice, good to know. Only if I had an iPad .... new iPad is coming soon right? Now, I have a good reason to justify my new purchase for a new toy.:D

Thanks! Running iOS 11 on my iPad and was missing not using this feature on my iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10, was there the whole time :)

What's the airpods fw version?

3.7.2 on mine

Not sure if I've connected airpods to iOS 11 iPad or not. All my other devices are iOS 10 I use airpods with
