Wondering if it is possible to get around the MLB blackout areas, so that I can watch my team's games on MLB.TV on my Apple TV or MacBook.

yes you have to use a proxy server located in mexico. i was using it last season without a single issue :)
 
you just need to pay for an account with a proxy service in a different location. mexico and canada would work well. Mexico might be best because of the possibility of a MLB game in canada. once you have this set up, just run your internet traffic through it. how to do this will depend on what provider you choose.
