Get Google Voice on iPhone

If you have an iPhone and a Google Voice account there is no doubt that you want a Google Voice iPhone App. Unfortunately, as you may know, Apple will not allow it. In response to this, I have started a petition to try to get Apple to give us a Google Voice App or at least make then give us a REAL reason for its rejection (or whatever they are calling it) and the removal of other third-party GV apps. You can have gv without jb

Just acces though the website I did it for quite a while between jb's. App does do it better though, Not a major difference.

That was my only reason. Before that though I just went into each one of my contacts and made their contacts page in google voice their URL. So at least i could usemy iPhones contacts list and somewhat quickly bring up their contact info and be able to hit the call or SMS button.
 
While I applaud the OP's effort, Apple doesn't give a damn about any petition. They have their reasons (whatever they are) for rejecting Google Voice, and no petition is going to make them change their mind.

As others have said, jailbreak. GV Mobile is a great app.

I know it is probably in vein since Apple cares little about how the customer thinks, but if we all said "Hey it won't happen anyway I just won't do it" then nothing would ever get done.

And 20 signatures is pretty good for 2 days
 
I don't understand how to use the GV MObile application in Cydia. All it does is reroute all my calls through my own number, so it's not like I can use any type of VOIP, unless I am doing it wrong.

i've read some threads where it says you can get google voice with jailbreaking the iphone... any validity?

so, 20 signatures is good for two days. huh? you plan on having enough signatures by, say, 2020?
seriously, if you want GV, just jailbreak. it might come to the app store, it might not. jailbreaking is here and lets you have GV.

Do any of you know what a jailbreak does? The iPhone OS has a security "feature" called BSD jails which prevents any one app from taking over the phone assuming something nasty slipped past the reviewers. When you "jailbreak", you are modifying the kernel to turn off all of that security by breaking the jails. This is why all of those jailbroken phones with SSH turned on get owned so completely by those worms targeting jailbroken iPhones.

I shake my head when there are so many noobs on the internet thinking nothing of jailbreaking. Let's say that you turn off SSH and/or change the root password. You are still vulnerable to getting completely owned by a trojan masquerading as a "legitimate" package in a Cydia repo that someone told you to add to get some other software.

Jailbreaking is dangerous because you are essentially detroying all of the security on the iPhone leaving it completely open to attack from outside or through a trojan installed by mistake.

I remember back in the 1.x days when someone released a trojan in the guise of Customize 1.3 that promised to work with 1.3 iPhone OS. I had jailbroken my iPod Touch back then and luckily I was not burned by that one but some people were.
