Have a 2014 MacBook Pro 15” that still runs fine except I’m on my second battery which is at 50% life.

I did have a photography business which could have used the latest and greatest but quit it.

So I see a great sale going on today and almost want to push the button on it but trying to justify it plus my funds are not that great.

The only thing that bugs me is knowing the battery will need to be done and that’s a few hundred there.

Any thoughts?

This response may be too late but, if your funds are “not that great”, and you're in doubt about the wisdom of buying a new Mac, you should probably hold off.

If you can get a *reputable* battery, that could be the smartest way to go — especially as you are no longer running the business and the 2014 is still working well.

As a related data point, I’m still using a 2015 MacBook Air and it works like a charm. Battery life is not that great any more, but I can get several hours out of it and have the power cable ready to plug in when needed.

One USB port no longer works and the other is flaky. But the laptop still does right by me…

Let us know what you end up doing (or did!).

If funds are low then obviously buying a new computer should not be a top priority, or even on the list, especially when you say your current laptop runs fine other then the battery. You can live without running on battery, be plugged.

The way to justify buying a new computer is when the old computer can't do what you want to do. It seems like the only thing your current computer can't do is run on battery power for long periods. You can fix that by running on the charger when indoors or finding a repair place that uses quality batteries.
