I am looking to buy a new imac very soon like tomorrow but just can't decide what to get, I do a lot of editing with Adobe Lightroom 2 and aperture so need the machine to make my workflow more efficiently.

I have been thinking in either getting the Previous Generation top of the line:

imac 24" 3.06Ghz, 2GB, 500GB HD, 8800 GS for about 1,849.00 Potential final price 1,899.00 if I upgrade the 2GB to 4GB

or get New Generation:

imac 24" 2.93Ghz, 4GB, 640GB HD, GT 120, for 1,799.00 Potential final price 1,999.00 if I upgrade to ATI Radeon HD 4850 only if it helps with photo editing

Which one is a better deal and which one will work better for my needs photo editing.

HD is not important for me I keep all my pics in Externals HDs so basically is the difference between the 3.06 and 2.93 big enough and is the video card important for photo editing.

Your advices will be much appreciated.

The only recently "bumped" iMac that will noticeably "beat" the previous 3.06GHz with Nvidia 8800GS card is the yet to be released 3.06 GHz model with the ATI HD4850 card. Those are only build to order right now and are showing 4 - 6 week ship time.
