Hi,
There are a several apps on the store for runners, and a few specifically aimed at helping you start to run.
Why start to run? So you can look like those crazy eyed people that lumber past when you're trying to have a nice walk, of course! That was pretty much my opinion until I decided I needed to get fitter and gave it a go. It turns out to actually be a pretty sweet way to get yourself fit and stay there. It's inexpensive, it's outdoors, and it does leave you feeling excellent.
Getting started running is often a stumbling block for people though, as the idea of just going out and running for half an hour is mind boggling if you're not already able to do that. I know of three applications in the store that will help you get through this phase and to the point where you can run for about half an hour. They're all based on the wildly popular "Couch to 5K" running plan that was first created by Josh Clark (author of the recent "Best iPhone Apps"):
http://splendid-things.co.uk/getrunning
http://www.felttip.com/c25k/
http://c25kapp.com/
The first one is created by me and some other smashing folks. I think it's easily the best because:
● it's got hundreds of really nicely recorded prompts and cues to encourage you on, and let you know when to walk or run, and how much longer you need to keep going for,
● it's got a sweet log of your runs that includes the dates for future runs.
● it's got a rather gorgeous "clock" for each run.
● it works properly when your phone sleeps or is locked, and works with or without iPhone music playing in the background.
And that's about it
Hope this'll be of some use, and will inspire you to get out there and get yourself moving! I'm going to give away some promo codes on the code sub forum.
Thanks for reading!
