Hey guys, i'm new at MacRumor: Forums. and I'm getting my first Apple machine. I'll be getting a black MacBook. And i'm just wondering what are some must have programs and widgets? Thanks!

Adium seems to be a popular IM Client
Quicksilver is really cool, even though I have only begun to tap its potential
I use Camino as my web browser.

Other than that those are my main three apps besides the built in ones.

Quicksilver. Download it and spend a solid 15 minutes learning it. You'll LOVE it.

Some of my personal faves:
smcFanControl: must have for keeping laptop nice and cool
gimmeSomeTunes: hotkey controls for itunes, fetches artwork, etc etc
WhatSize: quickly see what's taking up room on your HD
iBackup: simple and free backup app
journaler: awesome journaling app. I use it to take notes in class and to keep a personal journal
iTunesShut: kind of like a tv sleep mode for your iTunes/Mac
iRecord: simple video recorder for iSight
iStumbler: find wireless networks
handbrake:rip DVD's
iEatBrainz: fill in missing song tags in iTunes
billable: nice app for keeping track of services and clients, make invoices, etc

I say this alot, but I really like you control, it's an iTunes addon that enables you to control your library without physically opening up the iTunes window. Neat app.

Just like gimmeSomeTunes :) Plus gimmeSomeTunes has hotkeys for a bunch of stuff, even ratings. In addition it fetches artwork AND is free. :D
