Hi,

I had an iphone 3g and it broke. I am buying a 3G s. I had black before but I like the look of the white. I am going to buy it without a case, can anyone tell me what they're like after a year or so? I like the colour, but I'm worried the white will end up yellow like a washing machine, or if it scratches dirt will get into it.

Any luck I'll get iPhone 3.1.2?

Wish my iPhone broke nearer to June/July, then I'd wait for a new release.

thanks

i have a griffin case its great the color is fine i have a blue and a white ones but y are u getting a new iphone now theres a 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance there will be a new one soon but its ur choice so whatever but i would highly recommend the griffin case i love it and it looks cool with that white apple sticker on the back but i guess ass long as u dont drop ur phone it will be fine i have scratches frome taking on and off the case but go with whatever u like

I know there will be a new one soon, but my current one broke and I don't fancy waiting 3-4 months without a phone.

What's it like without a case though? Does the oleophobic layer wear off after a while?

I heard some one on here recently got 3.13 but got lucky and had a old baseband so they were able to luck out so it depends on those two things.

I think you mean he got 3.1.3 but had an old bootrom. The fw would match baseband modem firmware, unless of course Apple are upgrading with preserve baseband now ;)

My white iPhone 3GS is fine since I bought it in August. As for cases, I bought one called a ColcaSac. It was $10 and has worked great since I got my iPhone.

Picked up a white 16gb today and it was 3.1.2.

Unfortunately even though it was still 3.1.2, it won't allow me to jailbreak it...I guess the bootrom wasn't eligible and I didn't check what version it was prior to attempting to jailbreak.

You can still JB it if you didnt update to 3.1.3. You will have a tethered JB with the latest bootrom.

Well too late unfortunately. I guess I should have read all the information before proceeding to jailbreak. Next thing you know Apple kicked it out after the whole process and my phone remained in black and HAD to be restored.

Oh well...I guess one of my phones have to wait for the new JB exploit.

iPhone 3GS are fine. The coating does come off eventually, but my white 3gs has stayed white :p If you want to stop the coating coming off, get some cheap screen protectors off ebay for £2/$4. Keeps it smooth, and scratch free :) don't worry bout it turning yellow though.

Thanks for reassuring me about colour. Quick question about jailbreaking.

Why is it that if you get 3.1.3 out of the box you are basically screwed for jailbreaking? Why can't you back up your SHSH and ECID hashes? I know you can't do it for earlier firmware obviously but why can't you do it for 3.1.3 and use them hashes to downgrade or something.

Thanks
