Getting a new MacBook

Hi, I'm finally going to be joining the apple family when leopard comes out and will be getting either the macbook or macbook pro haven't decided yet. I've got a few questions to get me going with the mac.

I've been reading these forums alot over the last few months and see alot of people saying that when you get the new mac home do a fresh install using the OS X disc. Why is this? Is there alot of free stuff and trial software that comes on it that is uesless?

Is the RAM as easy to repalce in the MBP as in the MB? third party RAM of course.

Have apple sorted out this problem with the yellow part of the MBP screens?

1) Welcome to the other side!

2) People reinstall OS X mainly because it comes with support for pretty much every language...and most users only need one. The extra languages take up some space that many users would like to be free. The trials that come with OS X are useful: MS Office, iWork, and I think there might be another one but I forget.

3) Ram is supposedly easy to upgrade. (very easy). But the mbp has 2 gigs of it so I would try it out first and see how you like it.

4) Sort of. A lot of people think they have it but they don't (mainly because that's all they read about on this forum). I bet you're "expecting" your new laptop to have a yellow tint, aren't you! Don't worry...there are more non-yellow ones than yellow ones.

i was just wondering about the ram for the future when it needs abit more. If i get a macbook i'll put in an extra GB to put it up to 2 but if i get the MBP i won't straight away.

I'm not really worried that the MBP would come with the yellow screen. I'm a bit of an optomist and accept that this forum is a small percentage of users. To be honest i'd rather have a complete yellow screen than go much longer on my peice of junk windows laptop.

In its default configuration, the macbook comes with 2x512mb of ram, not 1x1GB ram. So I would recommend getting the base config and buying 2x1GB ram to upgrade it. I would also recommend buying the base hdd and upgrading yourself, you will save money.

2GB of ram should be plenty, but you can have more with a macbook pro, and should buy as much as you can afford.

I bought a macbook and am very happy with it, its so much faster than my old iBook!

cool, i've just been checking out the guide on the apple site to changing the HD and it seems so easy. So if i get the base MB and replace the HD and RAM straight away do i just need to put in the OS X disc and do a fresh install as there won't be anything to back up on the original HD. I see you can get a 160GB HD on ebuyer for around £70 which is amazing.

I take it that the slightly better CPU isn't worth the extra money(i'm only going to be using it for web surfing, music, pics etc etc)
