Is it true that if I get an unlocked 3G Iphone and when I put my simcard in, I have to avoid downloading updates? I've read from one poster on this forum that if I download an update I will have to unlock the phone again.

I am from Canada and with Rogers if it matters.

Thanks.

You mean the Apple firmware updates? Yes, you can't download those or else it will un-jailbreak/lock your phone. You will need to wait for the dev team to release the updated pwning software in order to update the firmware.

You will have to unlock if the update contains a baseband modification. All 2.x updates have contained this modification. BTW, I am 90% sure that Rogers is an official iPhone carrier in Canada

Rogers is an official iphone carrier in Canada, but why does that matter?

Does it help my cause or no?

What is the website for the dev team? Does my iphone have to be jailbroken in order to download that software?

So I just have to avoid plugging in my Iphone to itunes right? (sorry, I am an iphone newb).

Thanks guys.

So if I used an unlocked iphone 3G with a official Carrier of the Iphone (Rogers) will it change anything?

This is the American equivalent of buying an unlocked phone and using an AT&T sim.

does anyone know the instructions for unlocking iphone 3g? I couldn't find it in the search bar. I know there's instruction for jailbreaking. Is that the same?

to unlock an iphone 3g you need a jailboken phone with 2.2 software, then just get the source for yellowsn0w and install it onto your phone via cydia.
