Getting a Site Indexed with Search Engines

Hi! I recently designed site for a client but cannot get it indexed by any of the major search engines....

I am a graphic design student and only turn my hand to web design as a way of earning a bit of extra money but seem to have come unstuck with this site. I have looked up countless tutorials and even looked at googles own web masters outlines. I've been told it takes time but it has been nearly two months and still nothing, i have Written metadata submitted a valid site-map to google and followed as many of the outlines as possible including submitting the url.

The only thing i haven't done is included any external links because my client doesn't want to link to any other sites!!

I would be incredibly grateful if anyone with a bit more knowledge could have a look at the site or suggest anything else i could do? I am really running out of ideas!! http://www.bydesign.uk.com

How long have you been waiting? Even with submitting the site tp search engines it can take a while before they start indexing your site, usually around a month.

Google has a sandbox where it places new sites and things. They still index your site and what not, but while it's in the sandbox you'll never show up in results... my guess is is your site is in the sandbox.

Just keep doing what you're doing they'll appreciate it. In the meantime, work on getting some good external links to your site from other places... very basic SEO. Those might help you get results sooner.

I also think the .uk.com ending isn't very beneficial for you on that, it might look spammy to them. I just typed in the bydesign.uk.com in a search and you're right, nothing. If it's been two months and you're not even seeing that I'm pretty sure you're in the sandbox. Have you installed Google Analytics? That's helpful.

Why is he scared of that? Linking out isn't super beneficial, but it's not a bad thing, it's not going to hurt his site at all.

You should tell him to focus some on getting links to the site though.

Thank you for your quick replies!! well it has been nearly two months since i first submitted the url, and two weeks since i signed up to google analytics and google webmasters tools so ill just keep me fingers crossed!

hi there, Still nothing!!!!! i have been told that having a flash home page can effect the SEO of a site? is this true? does any one know what i can do to help that? Thanks again

Yes, flash can definitely decrease SEO. I don't use flash so don't know the ways around it, but I know there are techniques if you search for them. I know uing the meta tag for description is helpful, but there are others as well.
