We added a new line to our account and attached an old iphone4 for a friend. I went ahead and got an 8X on this line so I can switch it back and forth with my iphone 5 for testing. Not very thrilled with the 5. The continual wifi and push issues (push especially) is extremely annoying and Apple seems to be in no hurry to resolve it (not to mention the more obscure but more painful calendar appointment ownership bug).

Anyone using WP8 (8X or another model) and how has it been working out? It will definitely be nice to reuse the huge stash of micro usb cables I have - it's been a PITA carrying around the lightning cable with me everywhere.

Check out the Lumia 920 threads. I own one and I don't miss the 5 very much. Really fast and fluid OS

I've got a Lumia 822 on Verizon and I really like it. I'm probably more easily impressed than most because I had an HTC Trophy prior to this phone, but so far the 822 has been a pleasure to use.

Using a L920 currently, but I did get to play with the 8X a bit, and my wife will be getting one soon. I immediately noticed how much thinner and lighter the phone (8x) felt in my hands. The camera shutter is also amazingly fast (on par with iPhone 4s/5), the the Lumia does far outperform it in video and low light picture taking (normal light pics were very good on the 8X). Maps are also better, for now, in that Bing maps is preloaded on the 8x versus Nokia Maps on the L920.

Have you had any of the nasty crashes/locks/reboots yet?

The store said nothing but black was available within 500 miles of here. So they ordered me a blue one; should ship tomorrow and be here Tuesday. Was tempted to get the red but didn't want to order it without seeing the color in person (they had a blue demo).

Awesome! I am sure you are excited. As an OS, overall, I think you will be impressed. The bugs (namely the locks up and reboots) are annoying though.

I'm wondering if the bugs are limited to the 8X and 920. I've had an 822 since Thursday morning. It locked up about an hour after I got it, but it has been flawless every since. Maybe the 8XX series hasn't sold enough for the bugs to be as apparent as the higher end phone.

Respectfully, the fact that it locked up at all... to me indicates there is a problem. :(

But I would like nothing more than the rest of your journey to be trouble free! :)

My GF's iP5 locked up within the first 10 minutes of use and required a soft reset not to mention it wouldnt activate. Been trouble free since though. Things happen.

I dont doubt Microsoft needs to fix some bugs though because I have heard of random resets with some people.

Sure, things happen. I get that. But lockups and reboots are pretty much a documented occurrence around the board with various WP8 devices. If it's happening to multiple devices with multiple people, I am having a hard time saying "it's just those devices", or "it's just for those select people". Not knocking WP8, but to those that have used it extensively, there are some pretty clear problems.

I know there's a problem related to something in WP8 or its ecosystem. Thats why when/if I get the new 8x Im going to keep track of the return time to make sure that if Im seeing those issues I can return it. On a WP site it looks like 19% have at least occasional resets (4.5% say daily). Theres talk of it being related to the Skype Preview.

Microsoft said it's investigating the issues.

My response was solely to say that any lockup whatsoever doesnt mean that there is a problem.

I agree that locking up is a problem, but I haven't been able to replicate it. Something I forgot to mention earlier is occasionally mine will lose service for a brief period. It was doing it Friday and it did it this afternoon. I'm going to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

God I hate Verizon. They screwed up with FedEx, it might not get here till Wednesday. Plus the new line never showed as promised. What kills me is how every single rep tells you something different - impossible to know what's really going on. /rant off!

My 920 has been fine, havent had to reset it yet. Since I read about Skype possibly being a culprit I didnt download it yet. Other than a few minor bugs and programs like baconit exiting randomly every now and then mines been perfect. Battery issues seem to have gone away as well, I was having to charge every 7 hours the first few days but since I charged mine at 12 today im still at 75%. Unfortunately my moms 820 has been having reception problems, but I think that may be do to them living out in BFE, although their prior phones didnt have any problems. I just told her to get the iPhone 4 (I know, I'm encouraging bad behavior) since she just needs something basic for work emails and light browsing.

Wow, this thing is fast and fluid. Facebook integration is tight. Visual voicemail costs $3/mo for non-iphones? Fail. Pretty much adjusted to the keyboard now. I like how the mail client detected that my account was Lync-enabled and helped me immediately download the Lync app. Skydrive and Office integration is nice to have.

For visual voicemail you can use an app called majikmail that works through youmail. I've never used it but I've seen it mentioned on forums, so it might be an option for you instead of paying $3 a month to Verizon.
