getting an SSD as a boot drive via FW800 for my Mac Mini 4,1

I was waiting for the announcement and I wasn't impressed. I think I am going to try and inject a little life in this puppy and ride it out. I have 8GB or RAM and have booted off and on from a FW800 1TB 3.5" drive in an OWC enclosure. I want to get a 2.5" SSD and get some mounting bracket to put it in the OWC enclosure. Do I need to look for some special SSD... or a special cable inside the enclosure? Have read that I could go to 16GB of RAM too... but think will probably be the better route.
