I have a 2 line family plan and I have been told by the CSR's over the last 18 months that my iPhone data plan was not supposed to get the FAN discount, only the basic line fee. My AT&T account shows:

Your account type qualifies you to the following discounts. Service discounts are applied to the primary line under eligible agreements and exclude certain rate plan types and devices (e.g. iPhone data features and packages).
Well after all this time I found my iPhone data plan would get the 19% discount as long as the iPhone was the PRIMARY phone number on the account (as shown above) despite what the AT&T website and reps told me..
My wife's Krazr (no data) for some reason had ended up as the primary line so for the heck of it about 6 weeks ago I called AT&T and asked that my (iPhone) line be swapped with my wife's line as primary on our account. Rep said no problem and switched them. She also said I still wouldn't get the discount off data.
Got my bill today and sure enough this month my "National Account Discount" jumped from from $9.50 (19% of my wife's $50 former primary line in the family plan which has no data plan) to $15.20 (19% of my $50 iPhone primary line + $30 data plan=$90).
So basically I've been overcharged almost $6/month. Technically it was my fault because ignorance is no excuse but at least now it's fixed.

- If you have a family plan be aware that ALL FANs do not discount data but MANY do but the discounts are only off the PRIMARY line on the account. DO NOT assume that just because you were told by a rep that your FAN doesn't discount data that that is correct.
- If you have a family plan and are not getting data discount and you feel you should be (or just want to take a chance and find out) call AT&T and make sure your iPhone line is the PRIMARY line on the account because only the primary line gets data discounts (if at all).
