I'm on a school network, and bittorrent goes really slowly for me, as in, a few hundred BYTES a second(maybe!). I've tried port forwarding but it doesn't make a difference, maybe I'm doing it wrong, what do I need to do?

Getting bittorent to work on a network

Is your OS X firewall on? Are you sure your school is blocking BitTorrent traffic? Are you using a non-standard BitTorrent port? What torrent application are you using?
This is a common tactic used on school and business networks. They can sniff out bittorrent traffic and shut it down if they want to. Often they just limit the bandwidth available to that certain type of traffic.
I'm not sure if my osx firewall is on, I'm using azureus(or the standard bit torrent client, niether work)I've tried forwarding various ports through system preferences(and azureus preferences) but it doesn't make a difference. Also I'm sure it's the school, because when I take the Imac G5 home, bittorrent runs fine.

I'd ask around. As mentioned earlier it is possible to filter traffic. However, most torrent developers are going to include encryption of packets to prevent this.Programmusic said:
