FaceID is nowhere near as flexible as TouchID. I find myself constantly inputting my passcode. They really need to let you input more than one face to get better results (the way they did with fingerprinters).

I am of the opposite opinion, FaceID works far better for me than TouchID ever did. FaceID works so well it is basically the same as not having a passcode at all.

You can set the home button to be permanently displayed on the screen. So there is an option for no swiping up.

They are quite good these days. I just prefer iOS.

Every time I pick up an android device I can’t get over how janky the UI is. You would think by now they would have figured out how to copy the buttery smooth UI. Even the flagships drop frame left and right.

I am coming from a 7+ and I have no regrets in upgrading to my X at all. I do have some quirks, like FaceID not always working for me but FaceID aside, I love the gestures and do not miss the home button at all. FaceID will improve and iOS 12 should be optimized for the X series.

Even in different positions? For me, it works only if I hold the phone straight out. If it's down too low, it won't work. Laying down is a totally different story. The only limitation on touchid was gloves.

Granted, I've had my X for only a day so far, but I'm really loving it. The screen is gorgeous, and it took all of fifteen minutes to become accustomed to not having a home button and the gesture-based operation of the device in general. Face ID works wonderfully and has yet to fail. Granted, I haven't tried my many disguises with it yet, but that will come at a later date.

I thought long and hard about whether to get an 8 Plus or an X, and in the end I think I made the right decision, as the Plus phones are just a little bit too clunky to comfortably use or transport.

One thing I really didn't care about before I bought the X was wireless charging. Yes, I realize that the competition has had it for who knows how long (and, as I myself have whined on many an occasion, there are still wires involved so what about it is supposed to be wireless?!), but it's actually pretty nifty. I've never really had any trouble using the charging cable, but I certainly can appreciate the extra ease of simply laying the phone on a charging mat in the dark and be done with it.

All in all, based on a days usage I'm extremely happy with the purchase. And just now I realize that this mini review may have ended up in the wrong thread, but here it is anyway.

It was a surprising improvement for me and works in the majority of the positions that I have it in, including laying or with off angle. I really do like it better. My biggest gripe is that my darker sunglasses don't work with attention awareness enabled, but I do have that trade off if I wanted. Only other is off-orientations and extreme angles; but it's still surprising me with successes in chances that I wouldn't have thought than it's failed me when I didn't expect it.

I think it's fair to say there's more instances in which I enter my passcode, but the difference is that it's because it failed and I know I'm using it in a failing capacity and enter it immediately or second attempt; with TouchID, I would just keep trying to wipe off the pad or finger repeatedly which took more time in the long run because it should have worked and looks clean, most of which I'd put in the passcode anyway

I preferred the home button on my 6S+ :(

For me Face ID is too pernickety when it comes to angle, swiping at the same time (you STILL have to take off gloves, might as well have stuck with the home button).

Home button was easier, more use cases without causing frustration and worked!

Hopefully future phones will have both. Mind you if a X+ launches... I might get one.

I still have that nagging feeling of buyers remorse and I should have got the 8+ instead.

The good -

Looks great
Nice camera
Screen is lovely
Notch and rounded corners aren't as annoying as I thought they would be
Actually fits in my hand
Battery lasts FOREVER
Apps stay open in the background

The bad -

Face ID is crap at any angle other than perfection
Landscape is poor design - no rotation! Whats that all about?
Still has a notch and rounded corners to the screen
Loads of my apps still not updated
New touch gestures just aren't good - unlocking is a pain and takes longer than just touch

TLDR, it is a nice phone to use but is a pain to use at the same time. 50/50

Edit - Oh and it is damned expensive for what it is. I am on the upgrade program so no way would I have got one otherwise.

Nope returned it. Face id was bizarre only seemed to work 50% of the time and I like watching movies in bed at night and the notch got in the way. Great phone but for what I need and want the 6/7/8 plus works better. I miss animoji though :(

Nope, this has been by far the best phone I have ever owned by a long shot. For me faceid is way more accurate than touchid and the display size/quality is amazing. I thought I would miss the home button but on the contrary I much prefer gestures, these feel more natural than the button now.

For me this phone is perfect.

Gave mine to my daughter. I wouldn't say fed up, but I had a 6plus for two years and loved it. I guess I was caught up in the hype of getting an X I didn't realize it was a smaller phone. And I have read the numerous posts about the X is the bigger and better screen. However like some of the above posters, I like the larger housed phone with the wider screen. For me the smaller phone didn't jive, and after using it for a month or so, I saw no wow factor with it. I watch alot of videos and play some games so I like the wider phone screen, I also like portrait mode for most apps and the home screen. I'm not much of a photographer so the camera modes didn't really apply to me, and to be honest the notch didn't bother me that much but I noticed when I filled in the screen with Netlfix for example it cut off the top of the heads of the people on it. That bothered me. So I now have the 8 Plus and love it, totally happy. My wife on the other hand did not like the size of the 6 plus and loves her X. Different strokes right. Now if they came out with a plus size X? That would be meta for me.

Suggestion that improved less-than-perfect angle performance for me: try re-scanning with the X out as far from your face as the phone will allow. I had originally scanned my face fairly close-up. Scanning from almost full arms-length made it more tolerant of angles. Scanning in moderate, indirect lighting also seemed to help (think: outside in the shade on a sunny day).

Anyone getting fed up with the iPhone X?

I’m an avid Apple user but several months on from the iPhone X’s release I’m getting tired of constantly swiping up. I actually miss the home button and find the Face ID quite annoying. Also the downgrade from the iPhone 8 Plus’ bigger screen is a pain.

Tempted to get the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 just for a change. Anyone else feel the same?

I am really enjoying the X - particularly the gestures and FaceID.

The only thing I don't love is how heavy it is. Maybe I just have weak arms. One of my many defects ;-)

Not so much "heavy" (in my opinion) but noticeably more "solid" or maybe "dense" than a 7 or an 8. The weight falls right between an 8 and an 8 Plus. It's hard to describe how it felt to me and YMMV.

Agreed. Especially with the stainless steel bands, it does have a much more durable feeling in the hands compared to the 7000 series aluminum used on the iPhone 7.

Nope. Love mine.

Nah, I'm more comfortable with it every day
Never notice the notch and haven't since day one
Face ID has worked aces for me
Took about half a day to get used to not having a home button, and now using my wife's 7 Plus confuses me LOL

Oh, and I love how it fits in my pocket where my 7 Plus was cumbersome

My X arrived today and I’ve come from an iPhone 8 Plus

First impressions after 12 hours is wow I love it

I’m embracing the notch, after hating it when the phone was it’s released. Not many apps haven’t been updated for it but a couple I use haven’t which is annoying. Not really got round to watching many videos on it yet but that will come over the next few days. A few times I’ve gone to press the home button realising I’ve not actually got one, the gestures see, pretty easy to pick up. Face ID isn’t as qucick as you’d id was, but that’s comparing first gen Face ID with antried and tested Touch ID but this is no big deal for me

So far I’m really glad I moved from the 8 Plus to the X

Nope. I don't really observe a difference between a quick flick of the thumb or a quick press of the thumb. Super happy with my X (have had it since launch day).

I'd like to see apple add those gestures to all iPhones, that way I can judge for myself if I would like the switch rather than a 14 day trial. Any reason why all the current phones sold by Apple can't support the new gestures?
