Ok, so I'm going to get some iPads for my relatives in China this New Year's, 1 of them is a senior (60+ years), one of them is a middle-aged guy, (30 years), and one of them is a mom with 2 kids. I'm giving them a discount so they only have to pay 80% of the money I pay (tax excluded), and living in China you make like $3 an hour. So, do I give them iPad 9's or 10's? None of them have to do heavy work, the kids might play games and stuff, and the senior likes iPads because he thinks phones' screens are too small. I think they will be happy with both, but the iPad 10 is "better", with bigger display and a more modern feel. Do I go for cheaper (easier on their wallets), or more expensive, but more modern?

Ask them. Since it's not completely free, let them decide what they prefer based on what they can afford to pay.

That said, I expect most folks prefer the more modern aesthetics (assuming price isn't a concern).

Pick iPad 9 and give as a gift.

Charging 80% as a semi-gift is weird and cringy.
