Getting Java to run ?

Hello,

Old age problem, coupled with not too sharp with this.

Have an imac desktop.

Trying to run a program that apparently requires Java.

I keep getting an error msg that says:

Check Console for possible error messages related to ”/Users/robertrose/Downloads/JavaNAVTEX 3/JavaNAVTEX.jar”.

How do I install java ?
I thought I had it, but when trying to open it up from the Downloads, it doesn't seem to work.

Any hints, what to check, etc., would be most appreciative.

What year is your iMac?
What OS is running on it?

You can probably get what you need from the page above, but trying to work with this page is difficult. Not impossible ... just difficult. Very poorly designed.
