Hey,

My mum's MobileMe account auto-renewed days before everyone's account was extended for free.

I knew she could cancel then and get a refund but she would loose all her data and her @me.com email address.

Once she transitions to iCloud would Apple still give her a pro-rata refund for MobileMe and let her continue to use iCloud and keep her data and @me.com address?

Thanks

In the same boat...

I made the transition to iCloud with my MobileMe ID and then I went to a link to get the prorated refund on MobileMe because I too had renewed just before the iCloud announcement. Here is the link to the refund form:

https://ssl.apple.com/support/mobileme/cancel/

However, I did not actually complete the refund request because I am concerned that they will give me the prorated refund and then cancel my @me.com email address/ID that I just transitioned to iCloud with and I definitely don't want that to happen because now I am nicely situated in iCloud. I can't seem to find an answer on whether I can cancel MobileMe for a refund leaving my previously MobileMe and now iCloud ID untouched.

If anybody gets a definitive answer on this or goes ahead and uses the refund request to find out what happens, please update this thread. Thanks.

I wanted to try this, too. But I'm still nervous they're going to deactivate my MobileMe account.

Well, don't be. I was very concerned about it myself and I had the apple customer service rep confirm over and over and over again (poor guy) that it wouldn't screw up my new iCloud account that I spent so much time setting up and that I wouldn't lose my formerly MobileMe me.com address.

After I signed up to iCloud, I went to me.com and signed in to MobileMe and it still allowed me access to idisk, gallery, and iWeb. Now, after canceling my MobileMe subscription for a refund, when I go to me.com and try to sign in, it says my subscription has expired. And my iCloud with my old MobileMe ID works great and hasn't changed.

Went ahead and did it and I got my prorated refund, sweet!

Thanks for the post. I cancelled two days ago and have been nervous it would jack up my iCloud account. I feel better now.

It has been two days and I can still login to me.com. How long did it take for them to kill the account and how long for the refund?

I went to apple support and did the whole transaction with an Apple rep. I did not use the refund form because it said that was only for people that activated their account with an activation code or if they paid by credit card less than 45 days ago. I paid by credit card in May 2011 so I talked directly to Apple support. They asked me for my birthday and to answer a security question. Then they gave me a confirmation number and said my refund would be processed in 3 to 5 business days. About 5 minutes after I stopped talking to them, I went on to me.com and tried to sign in and Apple had turned it off and it showed my account had expired. Another great thing is that they still let me keep the 25gb free storage upgrade for the next year in iCloud. Hope that helps.

Just filled out the form despite the doom and gloom wording of deleting all my stuff, hoping it will stay in iCloud.

I had mobile me renewed until 2013 due to buying macs with it for free and appending it on my account. I noticed once I converted to icloud I have 50gb of avail space. I guess they took my refund and placed it towards the icloud. Not that I really care, just thought it was interesting.
