I'd like to start programming C/C++ on my new MacBook. I used to program as a hobby a year ago on my old PC in Linux using primarily emacs and gcc. I'd like to start programming on my Mac in Unix via Terminal or X11. How would I go about getting my computer ready for this? Thanks in advance.

Three steps.
1. Put your install disk into your DVD drive.
2. Install Developer tools.
3. There is no step 3.

I would also say look into other programs besides emacs. There are a lot of great code editors out there now (e.g., TextMate) that could serve your purposes even better.
