I'm getting my MBP today. I wanted the 2.2, but they are out. So I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the 2.4. I can't wait to get it.

Any tips for the new Mac???

I hope my computer doesn't have any of the problems I've seen on this forum/

Remember that most people come to forums like these or Apple Discussions to complain. I don't mean that's a bad thing, it's just the nature of the forums. Generally speaking people don't come here to say "everything works great" (although I do love the "my perfect MBP" threads here and on the Apple forums). So the forums don't give a really good impression of the ratio of problem machines to perfect machines.

I really don't mean that as a slam. I'm on the cusp of buying a MBP and I've found the problem threads to be very useful so I know what to look out for when I get the computer, and also I know that if I have a certain problem (kernel panics related to wireless use) I don't have to just assume my computer is busted. But even knowing all that it does always make me feel like I'm rolling the dice a bit when I get a new Mac!

For the record I read infinite stories of problems with the 24" iMacs when they came out and mine has been (knock wood) a paragon of perfect computing happiness, as have almost all of the Mac products I've ever gotten including my iPods. I've had one exception that proved the rule and I'll just hope that was my one and only.

Congratulations!

Dont worry about the other problems posted on these threads, chances are you wont have any problems, and if you do... you're lucky you're buying an apple. :apple:

The only thing I'm concerned about is should I upgrade to 10.4.10????

Isn't this where most people are having their wireless problems?

I fully upgrade my MBP out of the box on wednesday and had absolute no problems.

Agree, I received my Macbook Pro MONDAY and fully upgraded everything and its perfectly fine and fast. I even tried to do the EFI update but it said I didn't need it. Don't worry more people are having no issues with the software upgrades then the people that are having problems....

These forms tend to scare everyone that is considering purchasing a Mac I know they frightened the hell out of me now I have my first Mac and love it.:D

That seems to be what broke for a lot of people but when I asked about reverting back to 10.4.9 someone told me that he did that and was still having problems. So I say forget about it and just buy the computer. You're protected by the warranty and the return policy and all that and there will always be future firmware and software updates.

Or am I just excited because I may be getting mine today too?? I just found out that the classrooms where I'll be teaching have all kinds of projector/Internet hookups so I finally have my justification. Yay!

Definitely. These forums could convince me to renounce computers all together...

I can't afford the macbok Pro(i'm only 16) so I'm getting the black macbook!

good choice, its a beauty of a laptop... but the costs certainly do add up... apple care and additional software (ex. microsoft office) tend to inflate your original estimates, so dont forget to bring some extra cash! :p

I agree! I got mine last week and mine is perfect in every way. Reading these forums made me afraid to buy one but then I told myself what you just said and went out and bought one.

I got mine at BestBuy. They were in the middle of setting up their Apple store.

I upgraded mine right away simply because I wanted to be able to use my mobile broadband card with my MBP. Sprint mostly supported only MS drivers for the broadband cards so Apple stepped up and added the support. And my WiFi still works perfectly.
