getting my new imac on friday - firewire question

on Friday I'm going to buy my new 24" imac, can't wait!!!!
I currently have an external drive which I use for time machine so I will transfer all my music/photo's etc over to the new one. I have the early intel imac just now with the two firewire 400 ports, will the 800 firewire port on the new mac work with this??

can I use an erthenet cable and do old mac to new mac??
