Getting Photos Off iPhone 3G

So here's my dilemma:

My HDD recently died and I lost all my photos, but I still have them on my iPhone 3G. How can I get them from my phone back on to my Mac? I also need my music.

I'm currently running version 2.2

Do I need to pwn my phone in order to get at my photos? If so I need to be sure that won't wipe the phone.

Apps like CopyTrans Suite lets you take images off the ipod. There is another one I have at home...forgot the name. Works great, I use it all the time.
