Getting photos off of a Note 3?

I have an old Note 3 that has some photos that my kid took about 4 years ago, and I want to transfer them to my Mac. I just plugged it into my Mac and tried Image Capture, though it didn't recognize it. It has some kids app on it so when you boot it, it only shows you kids apps, and I have no idea what the password is to get out of it and into the main Android OS. The app came with the phone. I was hoping there was someway to mount it to my Mac and transfer files that way?
