getting photos out of my Iphone

I used Iphoto and Itunes to put a bunch of photos on my iphone.
I can view the images.

I want to use the Iphone like a portable storage device and be able to access the photo on another computer. Can this be done?
I have the USB cord to connect to the computer.

as soon as you plug in the usb cable, the pc will detect a digital camera, grab your photos then

Yes, I plug it in to my PC laptop to charge and adobe pops up wanting the photos.
