I am somewhat concerned about the battery life. I have read that you can only get about 3.5hrs vs. about 6 hrs on the MB. I read a rumor that there maybe an upgrade coming to get longer life. Anyone know about this?

Honestly, i would be suprised if you got more than 3 hours out of a MBP running 4+ programs at once. I havnt heard of the upgrade your talking about but if you go to macsales.com, you can find after market batteries that offer better battery life than stock. ;)

I don't know of anyone who actually gets 6 hours on a MB...and plus battery life depends on many things: screen brightness, hd use, wifi use, bluetooth use, memory use, CPU use...lots of variables. But 6 hours on a MB is not likely in normal useage.

Its not great by any means. In my opinion its one of the biggest flaws of our machines. I have the 2.33 C2D and it has horrible batt life.

You could always buy another battery and carry that with you in your backpack/laptop bag. It would add more weight but, then again you get more battery life.

I'd advice you to wait till at least MWSF.

1. There may be the new ultra slim MBP that is based off the ULV C2D processors for super battery life.
2. The current MBPs have a lot of LCD issues, or rather to protect the feelings of those who own such laptops but are unwilling to admit it, you will have a high likelihood of receiving such a machine if you purchase now. It is wiser to wait till they have all been ironed out before buying.

Just wondering, when are the LV/ULV C2Ds supposed to be released? I haven't seen anything on them yet...

ultra thin? how much thinner can you get? :D

well, if they could do it, I'm for it. BUT, lets hope it doesn't mean diminish quality. I'd much rather have a laptop 50% thicker than the current MBP which has its display flaws.

hey, the bigger the laptop, the bigger your muscles will get!!

I suppose it can get pretty thin if it runs cooler inside, but one thing about the ULV processors is that they are nowhere as fast as the usual ones.

Hence there is a trade off to be made somewhere.

And also, to make it thinner, means a smaller battery as well. Not only that, the display and fans likely add up to a bigger drain than the CPU.

With no optical drive perhaps they can put in a giant battery

I was thinking about that too. There was quite a bit of complaining about the lack of a DVD DL drive in the original MBPs. How large of a demographic prizes "thin" over features?

To the OP: I regularly get around 3 hours batt life, but am curious as to how that will change when I upgrade to CS3.

Having recently migrated from a CD MB to a C2D MBP, I haven't noticed any drop in battery life. My MB never got more than 3 - 3.5 hours with WiFi turned on and the screen set to "pretty bright". 6 hours of battery would be crazy, unless everything was turned off.

I think they mean 6 hours when the laptop is sleeping? Haha you have to read the fine print. :p

Yeah. Battery life does suck but since right now everywhere that I need to take it I can plug it in it doesn't really matter to me.

What does worry me though is that now that my B.A. is complete I am going to take my remaining credits for pre-med starting in the Spring and I thought that I would use my MBP to take notes and record lectures but that is not going to work with this machine. That ultra slim thingy that you guy are talking about sounds like the right thing for lectures to me, though I have never heard of this product.

Ironically what we take for granted here (average 3 hours) is pretty much considered very good for PeeCee laptops. However they do have the advantage of optical drives that can be removed to be replaced by batteries.

When will Apple adopt modular bays?
