I did search on a number of forums on this and I'm still confused.

After resisting from JB for a long time I finally did it using QuickPWN on my 3G 2.1 firmware. I did it because after researching I was led to believe it is completely undoable. Now it is not so obvious.

I played with jailbroken phone, installed some apps, unistalled and finally decided to go back to the original (due to some performance problems). I restored the original 2.1 firmware and everything went OK. Due to some (apparent) network problems (not being able to receive calls on 3G) I was planning to send the phone to the repair. Again did some research on removing all the JB traces. It occurs that the restore process does not completely cleans the iPhone as there may be some files left by the applications like Winterboard, Cydia, or Installer. I found a couple of methods and still not sure which is the proper one.

1. Just restore the original FW
2. Restore and erase all content and settings and register as new device in iTunes
3. Restore in DFU mode
...and so on.

Using the QuickPWN there is also a note that the baseband has been updated to the "correct one".

Can someone kindly explain how to remove all the traces of jailbreaking on a phone that's not bricked and working fine? I want to do that while "I can" and it's working in case I need to send it for repair in the future. All I did was restore in DFU and also I'll erase all content and settings tonight. However I don't understand why to register as new device and not to use previous backups. As I mentioned, I did search for a clear solution but I'm still confused.

My home key is sticking, i need to send mine in for repair and have jail broke it. Can they tell at apple if i did a restore will everything be removed?

Will restore using DFU remove all files and folders left by apps that couldn't be used without JB?

I had to take a pretty ropey jailbroken 2G into the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store yesterday which I was hoping to get replaced with a refurb. Before going into the store I did the following:

1. I first used iTunes to restore the handset to its original firmware (I literally just connected it and hit restore on the summary tab;

2. I then used iTunes to activate the handset;

3. Once this was complete I then went to SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS.

When I took it in the Genius performed a diagnostic and checked the water damage indicator in the headphone socket, he then said I just needed to complete some paperwork and that he would give me a new [refurb'd] 2G handset :D

Anything else feel free to ask or just drop me a PM ;)

I had jailbroken my 1st gen ipod touch and then the jailbroke broke my iPod Touch so I had to restore it. It was crashing all the freaking time! After I restored it it stopped being recognized by iTunes and I thought I was in big trouble, but I wasnt.

Anyways all I did was take it into the store, hand it to teh guy and told him iTunes wouldn't recognize it and it was very buggy. He said he just needed to do a factory reset and it would be fine. I just smiled the whole time bc I figured he would find out it was jailbroken, but after plugging it in he saw something was bad wrong and immediately said he'd give me a new one. I filled out the paperwork and took my new iPod touch home with me.

Removing jailbreak

I have a 3GS and I it is jailbroken I had a lot of issues with it including braking the screen. I replaced the screen myself and normally that would be a warranty discoulification on it's own but I took the sticker from the screen that goes on the cables connecting it to the iPhone and reattached it to my new screen I then refurbished it normally through iTunes and took it in. I showed the tech my issues and he took it back he then came and told me that my moister sensor was tripped but that he would go ahead and replace it anyway. I also tried to get my 3G fixed which is really buggy and he said because some one had opened it and rePlaced the screen (me) he couldnt even try and fix it. I did not put the sticker on that one. I received a brand new iPhone 3GS in about 15 min. I also have a friend that works there and he said that they only check to see if it is jailbroken not if it ever has because it's next to impossible to see if it has been or not so as long as you update or restore your phone before taking it in and you have not had your iPhone opened up by a outside tech you should be fine and if it was opened or you need it opened make sure the sticker from the last screen is moved to the new screen being replaced

You've got two options:
-erase in the iPhone. That will kill the JB.
-DFU and restore as new.

if cydia is removed then jailbreak is also removed

As above just restore but not from a backup as certain tweaks are carried over in the backup.
