Getting rid ofBloat. stupid noob macbook Q

Alright had this thing for a day.

I don't know...this OSX comes off more to me like windoze in my limited experience. Pre OSX I new where stuff went and where to find it. I new how to streamline the OS for doing audio recording for example.

How to I get rid of these apps that I have no intention of buying or needing (as far as I know)

Like this 30 day trial of microsoft 'Entourage' thats annoying me cause it keeps on opening. I'm afraid to trash stuff because I'm afraid all this stuff is now so integrated that I'll never find all its associated files or screw up the OS.

Pre OSX I'd just drag the app folder and trash it End of story

well, if you're uninstalling apps, you can either trash them then search for misc files associated with them.....

or you can use a program like appzapper or appdelete to completely remove them.


removing Entourage won't (shouldn't unless the devil decided to inhabit your computer...) mess up anything from my knowledge.

there might be files (i.e. preferences) that might be still left over, but those aren't usually big and you can find those via spotlight or with Finder.

you can trash enterauge, it's not integrated with anything, any trial apps or other third party apps are not integrated where they will mess anything up if you trash them

There's an app in the msft folder to uninstall it all, but for other things, there's appsapper and such, or the trash.

Give it some time. I felt similarly when I switched from OS 9-- seemed like everything suddenly became more complicated. In reality, it's actually alot like what my old Algebra textbook said, "Algebra isn't difficult, it's just different." You'll get used to it and sooner or later be able to create even faster workflows and come to realize how much better it is than Classic.

There are very few who have switched to OS X and -- in the end -- liked it less. So don't be disheartened, and odds are you won't be disappointed.
