Ok so yesterday i hav a .mac account opend and all seems to be working fine.

With my gmail i just don't freaken understand it. When i have it set to pop, it seemed to work fine. I would have 4 boxes in mail and in my iphone (inbox, sent, draft, trash)... So if i got a new email it would be in the inbox... DUHHH, if i would delete it, it would be in the trash..DUHHHH... and if i delete it from there it would be Gone...DUHHH, unless of course i delete it form the server (http://www.gmail.com)

Now i wanted to take advantage of the IMAP option so i did that on my iphone and Mail app. THe good thing is, if i send something from my iphone, i will see it in "send" on my home computer. BUT

Ok so now with IMAP i have inbox, sent, draft, trash, gmail, all mail, sent, starred, trash, draft, spam, apple to do.

So when i get a new email i get it in inbox, then i delete it and it goes to my trash, then i delete it from there and it's under my "all mail". Then i delete it from there, and it's back in my trash, then i do the same deletion, and after deleting the SAME email 8 times i think it's finally delted.. NO it's in my server trash, ok so i check all and delete. They delete, i go back to inbox and back to trash now they are ALL BACK THERE!!!

So i say f@# it, i go to http://www.gmail.com and see it in my trash, so i check all and click "delete forever",. and then they are still there.. WTF@#?!!?!!!!

Can someone please help, because i'm really close to getting additional .mac emails because with .mac, i have my inbox, sent, draft, trash... THAT'S IT!

Since i have 2 emails in gmail my .mac is similar to the one i use for bills, and proffessional stuff, my other email that i use for my friends i want to get a .mac with the same name only @mac of course and forget about gmail.

Please help understant gmail imap or if it just messes up period. And how can i go about getting an additional .mac account (not allies) or will allies be more of my thing?.. i need seperate emails. one for work, one for friends, different email address.

I simply love my Gmail. Couldn't live without it.

Since I also started using Google Documents, Google Reader, Google Analytics and Blogger my entire "Google experience" is getting better and better every day.

Everything is working perfectly. Everything is in sync using IMAP on all our Macs and my iPod Touch.

Love to Google.

In case the OP is still around from 8 months ago, things have changed with gmail:

Go into gmail through the web interface and click on settings. Then click on the Labs tab. On that big screen, look for "advanced imap controls". Enable it.

Then go the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, look down at the new IMAP features and enable the "Immediately expunge messages when I mark them deleted in IMAP" option under Auto Expunge.

See if that helps.

I assume enabling this will cause deletions from my iPhone and/or mail.app to delete the message forever on the gmail server as well?

It puts the message in the gmail 'Trash'. Before, an IMAP delete would just mark the message as archived and leave it in the Inbox.

I love the look and feel of gmail, at times it can be frustrating because the site lags. However, now that gmail rolled out new themes I love gmail more because of the terminal theme, looks cool and brings back old memories.
