My girlfriend's name is spelled "Emilee", but Siri can't find her in my contacts because it keeps looking for "Emily" instead. Any suggestions? I tried spelling it for Siri but that didn't seem to help any... if I'm not mistaken, my old iPhone 3GS's not very much touted speech recognition was much better at recognizing names :-/

Add her manually as "girlfriend" in the relationship area in your own contact on the phone.

Then just call her girlfriend ;)

"Call my girlfriend" or "Text my girlfriend" will automatically select your Emilee

You can add a phonetic names to a contact... I assume Siri picks up on that field. (you can use something like this to help you as well: http://project-modelino.com/english-phonetic-transcription-converter.php?site_language=english )

This is what I had to do for my wife's name...

Just edit your own contact info and there is a field for spouse/mother/father/etc...

The old speech recognition also didn't require an Internet connection, and it was significantly faster.

You can turn Siri off in Settings->General->Siri, and it goes back to the old school speech recognition.

Thanks, that worked.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind; maybe I'll turn it off at next week if I still don't like Siri. (I dictated this to Siri, although I had to add the punctuation myself afterwards.)

Go into her contact and edit it. Scroll down to ADD FIELD -- then click nickname and under her nickname, name her Emily with the more common spelling. This keeps her as Emilee on your actual contact and when it displays on caller ID but lets Siri find her.

You can do this for any contact. For example, my wife is 'Crazy B--ch" - so when I say text Crazy B--ch, it knows I want to text my wife.

Hopefully this has worked for you.

I don't mean to brag (I totally do), but I'm happy Siri picked up my girlfriend from the first request. My girlfriend's name being Anuradha ;)
