My aunt is sending me the new 3GS as a gift from Australia. It comes factory unlocked from apple.

My question is, when I want to activate it, should I just put in my unsupported carrier sim card and connect it to iTunes?
or do I have to run redns0w?

I have a 2G and don't really need the jailbreak, just the hacktivation part since I don't use cydia.

Hi,
When you get the iPhone, just put in your SIM (carrier doesn't matter) and connect it to iTunes and it will activate. However I believe that once you put in that SIM you can't change the carrier e.g. If I put a T-Mobile SIM in and then a year later I wanted to change to Sprint I couldn't because when I activated it I essentially locked it to T-Mobile.
Hope this helps
