getting the most out of my 2nd monitor

I'm not using the max settings for this monitor because iMac only allows me to use the 1680x1050. Im using the Apple mini display port to VGA adapter.

this monitor is a Samsung 1920x1080 1080p monitor Series 30 B2230.

its displaying analog and i want digital.

how can i get the most out of my 2nd monitor?

To get digital, you would either have to use a DVI or HDMI cable with its corresponding adapter, as VGA is analog only.
