Getting up to speed with Sierra

I have been using Snow Leopard with very old MBP and just recently purchased a brand new MBP 13" with Touch Bar. What I used to do with Snow Leopard does not work with Sierra.

1. How can I move an icon (folder icon, or any alias for that matter) by dragging it on the desktop or inside the folder. When I try to drag it, there is a new window pops up for that particular file I am trying to move.

2. How can I just move a file from Mac HD to an external drive? I used to just click a file or whatever and drag it to a new external drive to make a copy. I cannot do this any more. Do I need to press additional key?

Sorry about such an elementary question. But, it seems it is quite a jump from Snow Leopard to Sierra.

Hi,

you still can move icons, or items, as you did previously with Snow Leopard.

What is new is the "force touch" feature of the trackpad.

Gently press the trackpad before moving the item and it will work.

The "pop up window" that appears when you press the trackpad too firmly is a "Quicklook" window.

If you don't want to use the "force touch" feature, go to System Preferences / trackpad.
