Getting use to glossy?

I'm thinking about getting my first Mac and one of the the things holding me back is the glossy screen. I definitely prefer matte. That being said, I did go to an Apple store and played around on a iMac 27" and found that the reflections in the monitor were pretty bad. However, the store was brightly lit with a lot of overhead lighting and lights on the walls so I don't want to judge it based on that environment.

Anyone here also not a huge fan of the glossy, but got one anyway? If so, did you adjust to it or did it drive you crazy in the end? I'm trying to keep an open mind and I think I'll get used to it, but just curious what experiences other people had. Thanks!

I thought I was going to really hate the screen on my iMac, but I love it more everyday. The colors are fantastic as well as the clarity. The iMac is so easy to reposition that it makes getting it in the right position to reduce glare a piece of cake.

Yes, I also thought a lot about matte or glossy but in the end the glossy worked out fine. It's true the colors are pretty spectacular. And seriously the reflections are an issue for me maybe one day in 30. Basically, if there is anything at all going on on the screen, your brain ignores any reflections. The only time I notice it at all is if I am doing something that involves a lot of black, say a scifi movie or something, in the middle of the day, when there is a window behind me. Even then all I do is draw a curtain or whatever.

I'm sure millage varies but in my case, my worry was for nothing.

Of course, it does depend where your machine will be set up. If you -know- there are going to be lights shining at your back, well, glossy is a poor choice obviously.

As Aki says, the position of your machine can obviously have some influence.

Personally, I've never had any problems with the glossy screen issue. This is possibly because, unlike some people, I don't go looking for problems.

Amen. Neither do I.

If you think you're going to get irritated by the glossy display even if haven't bought it yet, then you absolutely will get irritated and post your 'experience' here. That's how most things work.

Do yourself a favor and just don't buy it then. You don't have to buy it, eh

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that if you look for something you'll find it. Usually, I'm able to get over most issues with things like reflections in monitors, noises coming from hard drives, etc. So, it's good to hear that unless you're going out of you're way to be irritated by it, it'll probably won't be a problem.

It was just really hard to tell how bad it'll be in the Apple store. The environment really wasn't set up in a way to cut out any reflections. Actually, I don't think they could have tried any hard to make it look worse.

Yeah I got one. I got used to it, and now I might even prefer it. The glass is still a annoying though. You don't want too much light behind you when looking at it but it really is a minor issue. What's more of an issue for me is the yellow tint.
