I currently use EyeTV Hybrid to record HD OTA and watch it on my 24" iMac. I plan to buy a 37" Vizio soon. AppleTV is out of the question because the TV is going to be in the same room. I know that I can output HDMI on my iMac but how do I switch displays? And also is there a dashboard widget that would do it for me?

Since nobody else has answered, I'll take a stab and I don't even own an iMac. I'm pretty sure you'll have to mirror the display on both the iMac and the TV (system preferences; displays). You probably won't be able to turn off the display on the iMac while watching the TV but you might be able to dim it. I've done this with a MacBook and it works well.

Has anyone else here done this with an iMac? Maybe my bumping the thread will get you a better answer than mine. :)

Apple TV would still be a cleaner solution, to consider someday. I love mine.

You'll want to just hook up HDMI, mini DVI out on the computer to HDMI, with like a DVI to HDMI cable.

You have two options: the iMac and TV could mirror each other, or you could use expanded desktop and drag things from one display to the next. You can't turn off the iMac display (I know I wish I could too).
