Hello everyone,

I have a hard drive connected to my Mac Mini (2011) via USB with files and I'm working on allowing Windows 10 computers on our network to access this. The Mac Mini is running El Capitan 10.11.6 and I have set up the file sharing protocol in preferences to allow access to everyone on the network. But when Windows 10 attempts to connect, it keeps asking for a user name and password to access it.... It shows as a SMB share.

Any recommendations? I'm about to give up and just buy a $$$$$$ NAS so we can all access the files equally.

BTW - my network is running on a Airport Extreme.

Thank you for any feedback!
Best,
CWO

Hi there, thanks for the info and I took a read. It's great info but about a Mac connecting to a Windows 10 computer. This issue is about getting a Windows 10 computer to connect to a shared drive on my Mac.

Seems crazy we still have problems with this basic networking between Mac / Windows....

The disk you want to share if it is a whole USB disk just do a GetInfo on the drive and click the bottom login button and then click to down arrow and ignore permission on that drive!
