I'm trying to sort out the massive amount of space Messages is taking up on my phone and I've found there are several message threads that are hidden in the list on my phone but are still backed up, which take up exactly the amount of space that's unaccounted for.

Short of restoring from a backup, I'm wondering if there's a way to get them to show up so I can delete them properly. I've tried opening a new conversation with the contacts in question but those just show up as new conversations regardless, and they aren't hidden in filtered messages.

Any ideas?

Nothing in iOS itself at least. I found that automatic deletion of old messages works well, but it will also remove messages in the threads you want to keep of course.
