I need to get a giant popcorn container made up.

• It is for a promotional event and has to be quite large (about 3ft!)
• Has to have a logo printed on it
• Has to be able to hold actual popcorn

I can't seem to find an illustration of a flat container with cutouts and guides with my usual suppliers, and wondered if anyone here could help.

many thanks in advance

Seen from the top, square or round? You'll probably have to make your own cutter up though.

If it was me, I'd make a scale model out of heavyish paper first just for shape and fold purposes, then get your printer to advise on specific finishing and prices, bearing in mind the economics of sheet sizes.

Then make your cutter in Illustrator using a 0.3-0.5pt stroke in a spot colour so it doesn't run out on any CMYK plates. Place that onto a separate layer in your layout program and lock it. Then, do your artwork around it, bearing in mind the bleed you'll need. If it's a round container, doing the whole thing in Illustrator might be an option as it might be a little easier to control the curved text paths you'll need.

It's flat sided and I've just found out that there aren't going to be many made (less than 10) so I wont have to have a forme made up.

It looks as if I'll be illustrating it myself – thanks for the tips.

The effect is going to be better if it is cut out of one sheet and folded, rather than several sheets glued together, so it's going to have to be done with a large format printer.

I do have a few concerns though
1. food grade stock – is this possible with a large format printer?
2. stock weight needed – heavy enough to stand itself up at 3 feet by 3 feet – it may need some reinforcement?

It may help to actually go buy a popcorn container to rip apart. Obviously, you can go to a movie theatre to get one...or I think that places like Blockbuster sell microwave popcorn that comes with a round container, to make it more "movie theatre" like.

EDIT: Sounds like I was too late to help. :)

I'm no expert but given the size you're talking about you probably want to use corrugated cardboard. Maybe just make a plain cardboard shell and then "wallpaper" it with your design.

thanks, I think you're right, it'll definitely have to be corrugated, maybe even plastic – nothing else will take it. Good plan with the wallpaper idea, could even line the inside with something suitable for food then.

thanks for the help guys
