I went to the Apple store and paid with my own money for a 25 $ gift card for me, so that I could get more music, as I'm only allowed to spend $8 per month.

I scratched off the code and I typed it in and it said it would charge my dads account so I canceled. Why would it charge if I purchased that card already??

Are you sure the full price was going to be charged on you dad's account? Couldn't it have been $0, "just because it's the normal procedure to charge an account"?
I don't know if what I say makes sens, but I remember that when I wanted to download a free song from the iTMS, I had to give some credit card information, although I wasn't really buying anything. (As I don't have a credit card and didn't want to bother asking for my parents', I just left it like that.)

I think it means it will charge your dad's account with +$25, rather than take -$25 out of his account - so he/you will be $25 in credit.
