I was thinking about ways to get windows users to use the upcoming itms and I thought about Gift Certificates, it would be a great way to induce windows users to download and try the new service. I dont know how feasable it would be for apple but it might be worth it.

i've always thought this would be totally cool..

i would definitely spend a few bucks to get my friends/family a few songs!

Apple did talk about that after the release of iTMS. This would also allow parents to control how much their kids spend. Put money in their account and when it's gone, it's gone. Hopefully they will add this into the new version, then they could make more money just for the reason you listed and for even existing Mac users. It would make a nice stocking stuffer.

Oh you mean like: Allowances
Set up allowance accounts so children can access music legally, without giving them a credit card

Another new feature?

"Allowance accounts and gift certificates
Now you can give your kids a legal way to download their favorite songs with music allowance accounts, which give them access to the store without requiring a credit card and set a limit on how much they can spend. It’s easy to set up recurring allowances which refresh every month, and you can establish different allowance accounts for each of your children. You can also buy music gift certificates — just the thing for your favorite college student or birthday friend. A counter in the iTunes Music Store shows how much credit is left in allowances and gift certificates."

Now that Apple stole your idea sue them :D

Sorry, but about 2 months ago I was 'invited' to take part in a survey about iTMS. I remember a couple of questions about being interested in iTMS gift certificates. I thought it was a great idea then and still do. I don't recall anything about Allowances though.

Anyway, I think a law-suit is out of the question. :)

Gifts for international users ?

Could this be a way for international customers to get "i"-Tunes ? Pay someone in the U.S. to give you a Gift Certificate and you are done ? Would that work ?

I think that gift certificates did a world of good for Amazon.com, so I would bet that they will help iTunes Music Store as well.

The allowance business is sheer genius though and one would hope that it would help eliminate piracy. Of course, the first couple of months, there won't be enough allowance to make up for lost time so...
