iPhone Gifting an App

I thought Apple would make taking my money easy. I had a balance in my account to cover the gift. All from gift cards. Nope. I had to enter a new gift card. Why couldn't I just use the balance I had? Plus, I don't even know if it went through. It doesn't appear so from my new balance after entering the card. And since apparently Apple uses 3 x 5 cards for their accounting, I won't get an email confirming my purchase (if indeed it did go through) for a couple of days. Apple used the be the best company. Now it's constantly WTF?????
