The card may or may not be compatible, but if it is at all, it would need to have its ROM flashed to work, as it is designed for BIOS. If you want a 5870, it would probably be best to stick with the apple version.

Yes,it can work on your mac pro.
But, first step is to flash a mac rom(EFI firmware) to the card.
Then it can run in mac os x.

Ahh yes that would be the $800+ card, as opposed to the $250 card...
I shall endeavour to work out how to flash it thanks!

If you don't know how to install a video card, then you should probably read a bit more on the internet before stealing someones thread. This website has plenty of information, just simply use the search button.
