Hi all,

I'm from the UK and can't wait until the iPad is available, I've been a Mac fan for year but got to be honest. Is the iPad REALLY that good?

Most of the time I'm on the Web, emailing, listening to music everything you would expect the iPad to be great at, I'm really hoping that my MBP is going to be sat of the coffee table collecting dust.

So far all I've seen is positive comments about the iPad, you guys (USA) have had the iPad for a month are you happy with it, any regrets, give me a reason to think twice about buying it :)

Thanks

Basically the iPad is good for what you would you use it for (web, emailing, listening to music). Your MBP would be used less BUT, there are certain things the iPad cannot do so definitely keep your MBP. Besides, you still need a computer with iTunes to sync the iPad.

That's something you'll have to decide for yourself. Sorry mate, but I can't do your thinking for ya.

I will say I use mine all the time and will not part with it!

Every day I find some very nice apps to use!

So the balls in your court! ;)

Have you seen one there and or used one?

Need more information, like are you a human? If you were perhaps, a tree lizard, then you should think twice about buying an iPad and focus more on eating small insects and avoiding birds. You will eventually come to the same conclusion though and buy it anyway.

If he's a tree lizard then that's one reptile I'd like to meet!

Rumors about it throwing it like a frisbee......not true

True, but Stephen Colbert did prove it can be used to dice an onion, so it has that going for it. Question to OP, are you more likely to use it for cooking or for outdoor sports?

I have a friend that is a diehard Apple fan, like myself. I bought a 3G one the day they were available for preorder and am excited to get mine in a few days. My friend, refused to buy one at the time of introduction, stating that it was a waste and that he didn't need one because he has an iPhone. Needless to say, after playing with one for a few minutes at our local Best Buy, he is now sold and ordering one. My point? If you aren't sold on one by simply looking at the pics and facts, hold one in your hands and I can guarantee you will be sold within a few minutes. I say go for it and pick on up when available.

There are some cons...

- A second stick will be required to beat off over amorous members of the opposite sex (or same sex if that is your bag) as you will be so much cooler if you have an iPad.

- Accessorising: MBP is OK with the urban canvass / jeans look - but the iPad really demands a more cashmere / leather sort of look, with longer lengths - think drape and swish. Harder to get the right look.

- Gesturing. Again, the static MBP sits there and is done to - the iPad is an in hand device and the gestures you use to counterpoint your pithy and fascinating conversation will now need to include actually holding the iPad. Make take a little practice in front of the mirror to get right.

- Orifices: As a perfect being you will no longer need to eat and ****. As a being of pure and perfect energy you will have to adjust your personal wavelengths to ensure you don't interfere with wi-fi.

Not insurmountable issues. Luckily Apple has given us a bit longer to devise a strategy for them with the extended release dates.

I've had my 64g wifi since launch, was happy to get it then, still happy to have it now. No regrets.... Just a big smile on my face every time I have it in my hands, which is a lot ! If you want it, and you can afford it, then buy it and enjoy it!

iPad > Laptop as a consumption device an should satisfy most if not all your needs.

Laptop > iPad as a creation device. If you are doing a lot of Photo/Video editing/encoding, music editing/encoding, real spreadsheet work...etc, your MBP will take over.

For me:

MBP > Creation
iPad > Consumption
iPhone > Communication, portable 3G and GPS when needed

No.

As a matter of fact, get two. One for each hand :D

That's what I did.. (well sort of) Didn't think I wanted one till my buddy gave me a brand new Wifi 16gig (had a bunch laying around at work). I'm addicted to it. I can't put it down so I had to order the 32gig 3G that will be here Friday!!!

I can tell you that it definitely attracts attention and I have buddies who use it to pick up chicks at bars! No lie. I get stopped constantly asking me about it. Great Ice Breaker. :)

Hmmmm, now what do I do with the Wifi model???

Hahaha!!! Seriously? They bring the iPad to a bar? That's a little goofy... I mean... It's portable, but not really mobile...
