I've been very aware of how my computing habits have changed this past month, and I can safely say that the iPad has been a 90% replacement for my MBP.

The apps so far have been VERY impressive. I bought Pages and Numbers, and I can create documents and charts very easily, because both apps utilize multi touch beautifully. However, I'm not doing any heavy lifting with it, as I would with, say, MS Word and a huge, complicated task. For the bigger tasks, the MBP still works best.

The news related apps I've downloaded, such as BBC, Reuters, The Guardian, and USA Today (all free) have been beyond phenomenal. The developers have done so much more than make a larger iPhone app in each case. I have not picked up a morning newspaper on my way to work since I bought the iPad.

I'm starting to get a little impatient to see some more iPad - exclusive apps, primarily because I've been so spoiled by this thing that iPhone apps that also happen to work on the iPad don't seem so wonderful to me anymore. I want to put a great deal more on this device, and it seems like the sky's the limit for this and future iPads. Hopefully, by summer there will be hundreds more clever apps available.

Watching free television shows and movies has not felt like a compromise at all. The picture quality is great, and I often lean it on my desk and watch something on the iPad while I'm working on something else. I just glance over at the iPad from time to time when I hear something interesting.

I use it at home maybe 70% of the time, 30% when I'm at work or out and about.

Mail is completely redesigned for the iPad, and works very well.

So, it won't replace your laptop, if you use a laptop as your primary computer. However, it MIGHT replace it if you have a desktop at home, and, when away from the desktop, you only need the iPad to do the things the iPad is expected to be great at doing.

It really is all that it claims to be. I don't regret for a minute buying mine.

It will be getting a front facing camera soon. (I would guess September and announced along with iPad 4.0 and the new iPods.)

Reasons NOT to buy the iPad:

1) Bill Gates is your dad and Steve Ballmer your godfather

2) Your dog would be beside himself if he didn't get to fetch the morning paper

3) You have diamonds embedded in your finger tips.

Well, I do think the meager 256 MB RAM is going to be a serious issue. It already is a problem in Safari, and will get worse with upgrades including multitasking. Having said that, I don't regret getting mine for a minute. However, I am considering purchasing a second one and will probably wait for at least a RAM upgrade before doing so.
