Hi you guyz, i am a student in Bangkok, Thailand and next month my sister in Us is going to buy for me a new laptop. I am considering between Macbook Black new and Macbook Pro Refurbished 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo. Which one is better and durable for a student like me because I am not a designer so I onyly use Internet-Chat-Power Point-Word-Excel-Music-Video-Photos. Hope you guyz can give me some advices. . Thanks a lot.

Money's tight, uses are light... go white? I just made that up, but you definitely dont need the extra power if you're not going to be doing any heavy-duty work.

I'd go with the MBP instead since it offer decent graphics, better resolution and so on.

I'd say go for the white mid-range macbook. From the needs you've described, the extra cost of investing in a macbook pro wouldn't show any significant benefit to you.

Thanks a lot. Maybe i will choose Macbook Black because I need the large storage, RAM is easy for upgrade but HDD isn't. 120Gb isn't enough for all of my database. Macbook black is cool. Forget Macbook PRO.
Ah, can someone describe clearly for me what is the refurbished macbook and ipod? Thanks.

I have had 4 macbook and now a pro, I always felt they lacked something, very happy with the pro....if you want to save money the MB but if you want a really nice Lappy the pro

A refurbished macbook/ipod is one that has been sent back to Apple due to defects, been fixed so that it's of merchantable quality again, and then sold at a discount.

A lot of members on this forum will recommend them, as they come fully tested so there's slightly less chance of there being defects as opposed to buying brand new.

Be sure you are happy with the size of the MacBook screen. I found it too small, and found myself a lot more productive on the MBP, but you may not have the same issue.

I know you didn't played games, but in any case the MBP DO have better gfx, and in case you need it it's better. And in all other ways it's probably better aswell since it's the premium version and macbook is the cheapest machine they want to sell. However 13.3" is nice and I much like the look of the macbooks on photos, imho they look better than the mbps.

Here is the Macbook Black that i want to buy, price <1500usd.

13.3" MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz Black 1GB/160GB/SD
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz, 1GB DDR2, 160GB SATA/100, Intel GMA 950 graphics 64MB, 13.3" TFT 1280x800, SuperDrive(DVD+-R/CD-RW), Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n WLAN, Bluetooth, Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger

It is cool, convenient, high speed, large HDD, Ram OK but the screen is small.

I am wondering one thing: I see the price in www.macmall.com is 1499usd and Rebate 100usd. But in store Apple nearly same price but NO Rebate. However, apple site offers Free 1 iPod Nano for student in US. I have iPod Video 80Gb already and I don't need Nano anymore. Maybe, If i have one more Ipod, I will sell it to my friends in Bangkok.
Can someone give me some suggestions in this matter. Thanks a lot.

Ah, one more thing. My sister is living in Virgina now. Thus, she should go to the Apple Store to buy the Macbook or order via Internet. Which one is better?
