New iphone '3G' user in Uk. Completely given up on 3G - turned it off. But even then I have little or no edge coverage either. This is ridiculous imho.
Im in North London (N12 area). Just even had only 1 bar on gprs...

This is a great iPod but as a phone, it totally sucks.

I don't really know why so many people have a hard time coming up with this on their own, but they do so here it goes: TAKE IT BACK!

There are people out there with absolutely no connection issues at all (i.e. myself) which logically implies that if you take it back there is a chance the new one will work better.

I really dont think its thaat simple. I have a colleague at work who has exactly the same problem - we get the same reception quality in the same locations etc. It doesnt seem to be a device-to-device variation. If I thought so I would, obviously, get it replaced....maybe ill do it anyway.

As an update, I eventually tried a suggestion from another thread which was to reset/power cycle the machine after the update. In fact, this fixed a number of issues I was having, including restoring my 3G signal at home. I remembered that, out of the box, there was a signal but this seemed to have disappeared around the time O2 were transferring my old mobile number etc, when I had several problems.

So, I dont think the 2.02 update has necessarily changed much, but I am a lot happier with the device now.

ps. Hopefully anyone who, like me, lived/suffered with a Palm LifeDrive for two years will understand my knee-jerk ranting as soon as any trouble reared its head with my spanking new iPhone...
