I don't understand how to integrate it into my life. It seems to make things much more difficult.

I take photos with an iPhone and a digital camera. I import my camera photos and then use iPhoto to delete them from the camera memory.

Same with the iPhone. But when I try to use with Photo Stream, the problems are:

1. the photos automatically sync into some random event so I have to find them.

2. they are not auto split by date, so I have to separate them from the random event and then manually split them up if required.

3. they are still on my iPhone so I have to manually delete every photo from the iPhone later.

I don't get it. How is Photo Stream supposed to make things better?

Even the idea of sharing to another Mac seems pointless since photo sharing already let's my girlfriend access our photos and she doesn't even need to be running Lion.

Can anyone make a case for Photo Stream?

Cheers.

Try turning off auto-import in iPhoto (iPhoto > Preferences > Photostream). That way you can always see your photo stream photos, but you are in control of which photos get imported to your library and when.

This is what I do - I sync my iPhone to my iMac, and all of my photos go on its iPhoto. Using Photo Stream with Auto-Import off, I manually make Events on my MacBook's iPhoto selecting only those I want out of everything available.

Lately however, I do notice that not all of my photos are being synced into Photo Stream. Why? I don't know. It sure seems like it's picking and choosing what gets synced to Photo Stream on its own. Other than that, it's ok.

So do you also turn off Photo Stream on the iPhone and let the iPhone photos sync only when you import into iPhoto?
