I am giving away my old MacPro. The last time I turned it on was over 7 years ago. I do not remember when I purchased it, let alone the internals. To the best of my knowledge it's circa 2010, FireWire 800/400 and has 8MB of RAM. I paid a little over $3,000 for it. I already removed all of the drives. What else would you recommend removing prior to giving it away?

Sad to see it go, but I'm hopeful someone will get use our of it even if they're trashing it for parts.

Many Thanks

I think just the drives would be fine, but I would leave the drive caddies. Maybe check the disc drives of old disks.

Do you have someone in mind that you are giving it away to? I would love to have a 2010 MP and would pay shipping.

Did the 2010 have FW400?

OK. I found the old specs
Mac Pro 2.8 8CX/2x1GB/320/2600XT/SD - I believe this makes it a 2008 model.
The only items I added were 4GB RAM and an eSATA drive.

I'd would very much enjoy making some money by selling the computer. However, the amount of time it would take to find a box, packaging (bubble wrap/popcorn), tape, and then transport it to the post office is not worth the hassle. If someone said, "I'll pay you $500 after shipping costs" then that would definitely motivate me to do otherwise. I've already received so many replies that now it comes down to who can get to my door first.

Its a 3.1, worth about 100 $ without the drives. If it has not turned on for years it is maybe defective just for sitting around. Turn it on, if it chimes and no red lights internally come up it could be at least alive.

Sell it locally for pickup.

The last time I turned it on was February 2014. The individual who took it (for free) drove 1.5 hours. I threw in a Rocstor ARTICROC 4T & 2T enclosures and cables. It feels good to get rid of it and a bonus as someone else will use or scrap it.

If your cMP has a FW 400 port , it is either a Mac Pro 1,1 ( 2006 ) , Mac Pro 2,1 ( 2007 ) or a Mac Pro 3,1 ( 2008 ) .

These machines are still very capable at audio editing or can be used as a media server .

Just obtain any old 3.5" SATA HDD , zero it out , install it into your Mac and load a copy of Snow Leopard onto it .

You should sell it locally on CL or eBay local pick up . The shipping costs are prohibitive for such a low dollar value machine .
