When the MBP came out early this year, I was thinking of getting one. I found out though that a 64 bit version was to be released in september (around), and decided since I didn't need the laptop right away, I would wait until then. Well now school work has got me wishing I had bought it earlier, and I really can't hold off any longer (I'm using a 400mhz pentium 2).

I finally found a really good deal, 2150$ canadian for a MBP base model. So I'm giving in, this is about a 350$ saving over what I should be paying once you factor in tax. And it's brand new in box too! I can't wait, I'm going to get it this monday!

As a student, you get an educational discount, so the base model is $2000 CDN. Factor in the tax applicable to the province you're in, and then tell us how much it costs.

Also, is the Mac you're interested in buying for $2300 brand new? Is it the 2.0 GHz Intel model??

Anyway, you're really going to love your new MBP, even after the new processor is used on the MBP. ;)

Make sure to get another 1GB stick of RAM for your MBP. It'll be quite slow if you only have 512MB or 1GB total.

Its brand new in box, yeah. I actually just managed to bring the price down to 2050$, so I'm saving 250 off edu discount. I may sell it when the new one comes out if features are THAT MUCH better, but I dont know. Or my dad might take it off my hands lol. Either way I hope macs are all they're cut out to be, because I've been waiting 6 months for this!

Only thing that sucks: I wish i could buy it today, but I have to wait for monday because the seller isnt available until then :( I have to endure another weekend (last weekend was waiting for MPB on monday lol)

i'm still holding off for the revision... it's hard & i've thought about giving in a few times, lol, but i've gone this far, i might as well go all the way, and if you decide to get the current one, more power to you, it's a great machine anyhow

Holy christ! Pentium 2?? Thats like what the cavemen used.:p

I guess that makes my family cavemen.. I dont know how they could use this garbage computer  I had an AMD Athlon xp 2200+ before, but I sold my pc in end of august because I was waiting for the MBP merom release... lol

I'll probly pass it to my dad though, since he doesn't need the power and he's been itching to get a mac as well.

By the way, when you make a windows partition, do you format it as NTFS? And only the partition you make can be used by windows, not the rest? Because I want to install windows to play games, but I dont want to dedicate too much or too little by accident.

i think you'll enjoy the MBP. i pondered waiting for the C2D version but it's really not going to make enough of a difference for me. my MBP is by far the fastest computer i've owned.

Congratulations on your purchase. I was also waiting for Merom and all the changes that were said to be coming with the new release of MBP but where is it? I bought my MacBook Pro last week and couldn't be happier. She is cool (well, normal heat) and quiet. Monday will be a happy day for you!

I got it!! The guy was able to meet up with me today finally, and I'm typing this from it now!!! Man this baby is FAST!!! I've never browsed the net so quickly before, also plugged in my external drive and was recognized immediately. Keyboard has a nice feel to it as well.

Thank you apple!!

Actually the 1st one I was going to get from the guy had a dead pixel, so he gave me another one which is perfect. Right now I'm trying to drain the battery down so I can give it a full charge. Batt life aint too bad at all, or at least it doesnt seem to be.

Congratulations! Coming from your Pentium 2, I imagine that MBP must feel like a rocket ship ;).

Yeah that's like going from a Ford Tempo to a Lamborghini.
