I am really tired of having to fight iCloud Drive, so am just going back to DropBox until Apple can get all the kinks ironed out.

Some issues I've had -

1) Very, very slow synching from my Mac to my iPad and iPhone.

2) Had a number of files stored out on iCloud that were "outside" the normal containers. Logged out and then back into iCloud on my Mac to fix a problem, which deleted all my iCloud Drive content. All of the normal container files downloaded back to the Mac BUT the non-container files didn't. I had to manually re-download the files from iCloud.com. This was quite a pain.

3) Tried both Readdle Documents and Good Reader on my iPad and moved a number of files to both apps from my Mac. Decided to not use either app, but am unable to delete the files I moved to iCloud. Every time I delete them on my Mac they re-appear. iCloud.com will not let me delete them there and in fact Good Reader doesn't even appear on iCloud.com even though it appears on my Mac.

So I've just said to heck with it. Moved all my Pages and Numbers files from iCloud Drive back to DropBox and deactivated iCloud Drive in Preferences. iCloud Pages and Numbers used to work fine before IOS 8 but they now have so many bugs, I'm just giving up (and canceling the 200GB account with Apple) for the time being.

I agree, and I did the same. I want it to work and to keep everything in the same eco-system, but its just dreadful. Being unable to do the simplest moving or renaming tasks on an ios device is a huge oversight, as is appalling download speed and an overwhelming feeling that this isn't user friendly at all and does things in a really unintuitive manner.

I'm pretty tech-savvy, and I don't understand what its trying to achieve. How on earth would my parents or grandparents (for example) understand it ?

A week ago I moved everything from One Drive to iCloud Drive, and today I moved it all back. Apple have blown their big chance in this space.

Couldn't agree more. For me personally, I would have a very tough time going back to iCloud drive even if the laundry list of issues gets worked out.

ICloud Drive is terrible. I feel much better now that I've made the decision to just forget about the service and stick withe Google Drive and Docs. It accomplishes exactly what I need with no compromises. If icloud Drice does that for you then great, if not then switch to a service that does..

It's awkward. I want to use iCloud Drive, but the local storage issue kills it for me.

I get a TB "free" with Google Fiber, so I guess I'll use that until (if?) iCloud Drive works the way I need it to.

I thought months ago when it was announced that I could finally move from Dropbox.

Now that iCloud drive is out, I see how it works and never bothered to try to move everything from Dropbox. I will however use both.

I will continue to use my iCloud subscription for backing up IOS devices, iCloud photo library - things like that.

If I want to start something on iPhone like make a small spreadsheet then Numbers is the best for example and would use iCloud drive for that.

To summarize:
Anything Apple and creating stuff originating on IOS - iCloud drive
Archiving, real work using any program mainly on PC or MAC - Dropbox

Can always use PC or MAC to move stuff from iCloud drive to/from Dropbox and organize etc.

I don't think Apple has ever got web services right. iTools, .Mac, MobileMe, iCloud, whathaveyou.

I've noticed the same problems here.

It's just too finicky right now. It shows folders for apps I don't have and just isn's clean. Why isn't there an official drive app? Apple can be so stupid sometimes.

I'll use OneDrive for right now.

why does Cloud stuff have to be so hard. :)

a lot of folks want one simple process for backing up tons of pictures and import home documents like tax records. thats about it. make happen Apple.

right now it seems like Flickr and its 1TB free is great for all my pictures and a free Dropbox account for document back up.

I haven't really noticed any issues with iCloud Drive. I actually find it faster and more reliable than all the competitors and I test them all. I like that it has Apple privacy built-in, and it's pretty much unimaginable I'll ever consider using the likes of dropbox ever again.

This is just the start for iCloud Drive. There are so many possibilities for the future and I can't wait to see Apple start bringing their innovation A Game to this space.

You can remove those (or some) folders from the iCloud Settings. Go to iCloud Drive --> Options and you will see the Applications that are using iCloud Drive. If you uncheck some they will be removed from your iCloud Drive. I dropped a few. You would do that all all of your Mac's that share the same iCloud Drive.

I am pretty happy with iCloud but I do not use it that much. I have mostly Numbers Files and they seem to Sync of for me. However, I have not timed it.

I've already done that. These are empty folders from unused apps that are hidden in the OS X Finder, but show up on iOS or on iCloud.com. There no way to dispose of them right now.

I'm leaving it on for app's to sync, but I have disabled icloud photos and will be using onedrive or dropbox for most stuff. Maybe next year they will announce some improvements to icloud drive.
